Local SEO for Contractors: Line Up Your Profile and Website
Short answer: Local SEO for contractors means picking the jobs you want, like bathroom remodeling or concrete, and making your Google Business Profile and website say the same thing about them. Get your categories right, build your website menu around them, name your town, and post real project photos and reviews.

Local SEO for contractors starts with what you want to be hired for
“Contractor” covers a lot: general contractors, remodelers, roofers, concrete, windows, cabinets. Homeowners don’t search “contractor.” They search “bathroom remodeler” or “concrete contractor” with their town name. Local SEO for contractors means picking the jobs you want and lining up your Google Business Profile and website around them.
Most of the businesses we work with are in home services and the trades, so this is the kind of profile I look at every day. That includes remodelers, roofers, construction companies and cabinet shops. Client names stay off this page until Bret clears a named example in writing.
1. Categories first
When I reviewed a contractor’s website on my channel, I started with the Google Business Profile categories, because everything else follows them.
“Here are your GMB categories: general contractor, bathroom remodeler, concrete contractor and so on and so forth.”

Your primary category should be the work you want most. If you’re mostly a kitchen and bath remodeler, “General contractor” may not be the right first category. Check what the top three in your town use before you change it, and only list categories for work you actually do.
2. Make your website menu match your categories
In that same review, I showed how the website’s links should follow the profile: your first link is your first category, your next link is your next category, and so on. Under each one go the service pages that belong to it. A remodeler might have “Bathroom remodeling” with pages for shower conversions and tile under it.
This tells Google the same story twice, once on the profile and once on the site. It also helps a homeowner find the job they came for in one click.
3. Name the town
“I would put the name of the town first.”

Put your main town in your title tags and headings where it reads naturally. Don’t try to rank one page for every city in the state. One strong page for where you’re based beats twenty thin city pages that say the same thing.
4. Write calls to action like a contractor
“you could put hi you know, hire a Hyattsville contractor today instead of contact us, right? Go through all your title tags.”

“Contact us” says nothing. “Get a quote for your bathroom remodel” tells the homeowner what happens next.
5. Project photos and reviews
Contracting jobs are big decisions. Homeowners want to see finished work in their area and read what past customers said. Post real project photos to your profile as you finish jobs. Ask every customer for a review the same way, with nothing offered in return.

Questions we get
Should I use General contractor as my main category?
Only if general contracting is the work you want most. Remodelers and specialty trades often do better with a more specific category.
Should I make a page for every city I serve?
No. Build pages only for areas where you have real jobs and customers.
Does the guarantee cover roofing contractors?
No. Guarantee not available for legal, roofing or water damage.
Is local SEO for contractors different from remodeler SEO?
Same system. Categories, service pages, town naming, project photos and reviews. The primary category and page list change with the work you want most.
